White Distinctive Military Merit Plaque. Castells. Alfonso XIII, Spain, circa 1915
Magnificent White Distinctive Military Merit Plaque in its original case, manufactured by Castells in Barcelona circa 1915. This decoration was awarded to General Manuel Manso Rozas during the reign of Alfonso XIII and has come down to us in excellent condition. Plaques with a white insignia, such as this one, are awarded for merits achieved in peacetime. It is made of silver-gilt and plain silver and features an inner circle bearing the symbols of the kingdoms of Castile, León, and Granada, as well as the coat of arms of the House of Bourbon-Anjou. Four gilded fleurs-de-lis surround the cross, along with a beautiful display of silver rays. On the reverse side, we can see the manufacturers stamp featuring its coat of arms, awards, and name: CASTELLS BARCELONA. The plaque is in very good condition, with the enamel intact and no chips. The storage case, maroon in colour with a white satin lining, is also in good condition.
