Antique Spanish Ros or Shako for an Infantry Officer. Model 1908. Alfonso XIII
Antique Spanish ros or shako for an infantry officer, original from the era of Alfonso XIII. This military cap is the 1908 model, a 100% authentic item, very well preserved, complete, and almost like new. This type of military headgear was introduced into the Spanish army in 1855 by General Ros de Olano, after whom it is named; the one shown in the images is from a slightly later period. It is made of lightweight felt, with the brim and top covered in black material. On the front, we can see the coat of arms of Spain in gilded brass, with a gathered band in the colours of the national flag and a plume-shaped finial, also in brass. The interior is lined with red fabric; on the lining, we can see the name of the military hatmaker who crafted it in gold lettering: RAFAEL ALONSO, whose workshop was located on Calle Mayor in Madrid.
Due to its elegance and excellent condition, this antique Spanish ros or shako for an infantry officer from the era of Alfonso XIII deserves a prominent place in a display case alongside the finest military antiques.
