History of Eberhard & Co.

Eberhard & Co. was founded in 1887 by Georges Émile Eberhard in La Chaux-de-Fonds, one of the historic centres of Swiss watchmaking. From its early years, the manufacture clearly oriented itself toward precision and robust construction of its movements. During the final part of the nineteenth century, the firm developed calibres highly appreciated for their stability and technical quality, which allowed the house to position itself among the most respected of its time.

In these early years, Eberhard produced movements destined both for simple watches and for highly complicated pieces, including repeaters, adjusted escapements and mechanisms conceived for reliable chronometric performance. These pieces consolidated the brand’s reputation in the European and American markets.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, Eberhard participated actively in precision competitions and gained notoriety for the reliability of its movements. Later, the house would become a reference in the production of chronographs, but the pocket watches of the late nineteenth century, especially those equipped with minute repeaters, remain today some of the best examples of the firm’s original philosophy: precision, good construction and functional elegance.
