Impressive antique Chinese tabletop desk set, made of dark hardwood and richly carved on all its surfaces, both on the exterior and on the interior of the lids. It is a piece with a strong visual presence, conceived as a letter and document holder, which stands out at first glance for the depth and complexity of its relief carving, visible across the entire surface.

The structure presents a very characteristic architectural form, with a double hinged lid and a compartmentalized interior arranged on different levels, designed for organizing letters, papers and writing implements. When opened, it is striking to see that the inner faces of the lids are also fully carved, showing two large confronting dragons, an uncommon detail that reinforces the special and carefully crafted nature of the piece.

The decoration is extraordinarily rich and coherent. On all sides appear Chinese dragons carved in relief, symbols of power, protection and authority in traditional Chinese culture. These dragons are combined with floral motifs and stylized bats, figures associated with good fortune and happiness. Carved Chinese symbols are also visible, including a circular motif traditionally linked to longevity, all harmoniously integrated into the overall ornamental scheme.

The edges and finishing elements of the entire desk set are worked to imitate carved bamboo canes, a very refined decorative resource that adds visual rhythm and demonstrates the skill of the craftsman. The wood used is an Asian hardwood of dark tone and high density, clearly non European. The exact species has not been identified, but its weight, texture and behavior correspond to woods traditionally used in quality Chinese furniture. The piece has been fully restored. It was originally very dirty and structurally unstable inside, and has been cleaned, adjusted and consolidated, recovering its structural firmness and aesthetic appearance without altering its antique character.

It includes its original key, and the lock remains functional, although the closure does not lock completely firmly due to a small internal metal latch that requires repair, a minor detail that does not affect the use or enjoyment of the piece. Overall, the desk set is in very good condition after restoration, with a majestic presence.

This is a very attractive piece for collectors of Chinese art due to the abundance and quality of its carving, difficult to find so complete. Its excellent condition after restoration allows it to be fully enjoyed from the first day. The symbolic richness and artisanal quality make this desk set an acquisition with strong personality and great visual impact.
