Antique Rustic Irrigation-Ditch Cover Lifter. Early 20th Century

Antique rustic irrigation-ditch cover lifter, manufactured in the early 20th century and in good condition. This unique apparatus, made of cast iron, is complete and in working order. Apparently, it is a device that allows the covers of irrigation ditches to be lifted and kept open. The device consists of a hollow central body through which a partially toothed longitudinal piece slides. The body is equipped with a crank handle, at the end of which there is a gear, also toothed. One end of the toothed piece connects to the irrigation ditch cover; the other end engages with the gear, and turning the crank raises the cover. It is an ingenious design that makes it easier to handle the heavy covers and keeps them open so that work or repairs can be carried out on the irrigation ditch.

This unique and antique rustic irrigation-ditch cover lifter is undoubtedly a one-of-a-kind piece, an example of the quality and ingenuity of old rural tools.
