Antique watchmakers rounding-up machine or Lathe. Complete. 19th Century
Antique beveling machine or lathe for manufacturing watch gears. This interesting piece dates to the 19th century; despite being over a century old, it has survived to the present day in the excellent condition shown in the images. The machine comes with all its original period accessories, perfectly preserved and in working condition. The base is a solid mahogany drawer that serves a dual purpose: to support the lathe, which is screwed to the top, and to store the set of accessories inside.
The name rounding machine comes from the French verb arrondir (to round). Its function is precisely that: to round the gears of watch mechanisms so that they are perfectly circular before cutting the teeth. The design of this machine is simple and functional: made entirely of polished brass, it features a vertical support attached to the drawer, on the back of which a series of moving parts are arranged. These parts form a lathe with a large wheel, connected to two smaller ones by a thin, sturdy cord. All the parts are in impressive condition, with no traces of rust or wear.
The wooden drawer is also in good condition. Its surface bears the patina created by years of use, lending it authenticity and charm. Inside the drawerwhose bottom is lined with original dark maroon velvet from the periodwe find the complete set of tips, wheels, and blades needed to carve the various pieces. All are original to the machine and none are missing, making them the perfect complement to this fascinating piece.
Lovers of mechanical antiques, vintage devices, and watchmaking will appreciate the perfection and quality of this magnificent antique rounding machine.
