Antique Religious Virgin Mary Pendant in 18K Gold with Diamonds. Spain mid 20th century

Antique religious pendant depicting the Virgin Mary, made in 18K gold with natural diamonds and a central carved plaque, probably ivory. The piece presents a very carefully balanced composition, where the profile image of the Virgin becomes the main focal point, framed by a well proportioned decorative structure inspired by vegetal motifs.

The central plaque shows a delicate relief with the figure of the Virgin in profile, with soft and well defined features, particularly highlighting the treatment of the face and the veil. Around the head there is a semicircular halo formed by natural diamonds set in white toned metal, which visually reinforces the image and adds luminosity to the whole. This element not only frames the figure, but also clearly and directly emphasizes its devotional character.

The outer frame is crafted in yellow gold, with a vegetal decoration in relief running along the entire contour. The sinuous shapes, stylized leaves and small volumes give movement to the piece without overloading it. In contrast, the white toned areas, probably silver over gold, appear in the elements that hold the diamonds, creating a visual interplay between the brilliance of the stones and the warmth of the gold.

The structure presents an openwork design in several areas, which lightens the piece visually and allows a better appreciation of the goldsmith work. At the top, the suspension loop is integrated into the design with a decorative motif consistent with the rest of the piece. In the lower area, a small additional diamond is added, acting as a finishing element and visual closure of the whole.

On the reverse, a construction consistent with the front can be observed, with the central plaque fitted into its mount and the open backed settings, something typical in this type of pieces. The condition is very good. No dents, losses or visible interventions are observed. The diamonds are complete and firmly set, and the relief of the plaque retains its details clearly defined.

It is a piece with a clear religious character, intended both for personal use and for collecting, with a very successful combination of materials, iconography and craftsmanship. A piece that brings together several uncommon factors in a single object, 18K gold, natural diamonds and a finely carved central image of the Virgin with great definition and delicacy.
