Magnificent French monstrance made around 1880, entirely in first standard gilded silver, with strong liturgical presence and extraordinary visual impact. This is a piece of great category, conceived to stand out with enormous force during exposition of the Blessed Sacrament thanks to its powerful radial burst of rays, projecting light vibrantly around the central luna. The monstrance preserves a spectacular altar appearance, combining ornamental richness, balanced proportions and very careful execution in all its elements. It is an authentically solemn piece, one of those antique monstrances that visually transform the space where they are displayed.

The design follows the classical sunburst monstrance model, here resolved with an especially wide and dynamic radiating burst that provides depth, brilliance and truly imposing presence. The central body is perfectly framed by the radial explosion of rays, creating a very powerful visual reading and focusing all attention on the luna. The glass remains in good condition and the luna, fully functional, is prepared for hosts up to 5.5 cm (2.17 in), with firm and secure closure suitable for immediate liturgical use.

Around the luna develops a cloud shaped decoration with cherub heads in relief, treated with good volume and great sculptural richness. Beneath them appear finely worked grape clusters and wheat sheaves, clearly introducing traditional Eucharistic iconography. The entire ensemble possesses a great sensation of movement and luminosity, further reinforced by the spectacular burst of rays, complete and without losses, one of the most attractive elements of the piece.

The stem presents an especially rich and elegant central knop, worked with vegetal inspired reliefs and Eucharistic motifs of magnificent definition. Particularly notable are the cherub heads in full round sculpture, perfectly modelled and highly expressive, providing important sculptural presence while also facilitating the natural grip of the monstrance during use. Between them develop oval cartouches decorated with grape clusters, wheat sheaves and vegetal elements, all treated with depth and excellent sensation of volume. The ensemble is solid, balanced and visually highly attractive, maintaining perfect aesthetic coherence with the rest of the piece.

The base, of quadrangular format with feet supports, presents especially rich execution both structurally and ornamentally. Each of its sides incorporates deep and highly vivid reliefs, perfectly preserving all their decorative reading. On the front stands the Mystic Lamb upon the sealed book and the cross, accompanied by rays of light, a Eucharistic representation of enormous symbolic and visual strength. On the opposite side appears the radiant eye inscribed within a triangle, symbol of divine presence, surrounded by a magnificently executed luminous burst. The lateral sides show vegetal compositions with grape clusters, leaves and floral motifs treated with great ornamental richness, while the entire lower perimeter is bordered by a repetitive frieze of classical inspiration providing continuity and sensation of unity to the ensemble.

The feet, elegantly integrated within the structure, present vegetal forms and scrolls of great dynamism, slightly elevating the base and providing visual lightness without losing solidity. The monstrance stands completely firm, transmitting a sensation of stability and security highly appropriate for liturgical use.

The piece has been revised and adjusted by a silversmith, ensuring a solid structure fully suitable for liturgical use. The gilding preserves a magnificent overall presence, homogeneous and highly luminous, without important wear affecting the aesthetic of the ensemble. On the rear appear old interventions typical in monstrances of this period, especially in delicate areas such as the burst of rays. These have been checked and professionally reinforced, with the entire structure remaining firm, aligned and without weakness.

The rear maintains the same ornamental care as the front, something unusual in many antique monstrances. The burst of rays preserves all its visual force also from behind, generating a magnificent volumetric effect and a clear reading of the entire structure. The luna system fits perfectly, without looseness, and the rear decoration continues the same iconographic language of the front through clouds, wheat sheaves and vegetal relief elements.

The monstrance presents French first standard silver hallmarks with Minerva head in different parts of the piece, indicating a purity of 950 thousandths, in addition to silversmith marks not clearly identified.

Visually this is a monstrance of enormous category and presence, one of those antique pieces that immediately stand out because of their aesthetic and liturgical strength. The combination between gilded silver, sculptural richness, Eucharistic iconography and the spectacular burst of rays transforms this piece into a true altar protagonist, capable of immediately elevating the visual and ceremonial patrimony of any parish, chapel or religious community.

In addition to its evident historical and collectible interest, it remains a perfectly usable monstrance, ready to once again occupy the place for which it was created.
