Girl with Guitar: a resin figure by Joan Ripollés, one-of-a-kind and signed by the artist, large in size and with great visual impact. The figure unmistakably displays its creators characteristic style: a cheerful and colourful figurative style filtered through Cubism and the avant-garde movements. It comes with a certificate of authenticity issued by Ripollés himself, guaranteeing its authorship. It is made of resin and depicts a girl holding a small guitar aloft. The figure does not have a body in the traditional sense, but rather consists of a large, ovoid head with two long legs and two arms. It stands on just one of its legs, which is attached to a circular base. The other leg is bent: the figure is in motion, performing a dance. The head is white and displays different profiles and facial expressions depending on the viewing angle. All the expressions are cheerful and simple, showcasing the vibrant and varied colour palette that distinguishes many of the Valencian artists works. The legs are painted with vertical coloured stripes; the arms and the guitar also feature a striking polychromatic design. On the foot resting on the base, we can see Ripolléss signature in blue.

Juan García Ripollés Biography

Juan García Ripollés, also known as Ripo or Beato Ripo, is a Spanish artist born in Alzira (Valencia) in 1932. Ripolléss work spans painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Ripollés had a difficult childhood and had to work as a scrap dealer and industrial painter, but his passion for painting led him to attend night classes at the School of Arts and Crafts in Castellónthe city where he spent his childhood and adolescencefrom the ages of 12 to 20. In 1954, he emigrated to Paris, and once there, he strove to achieve his greatest desire: to become a painter. Four years after his arrival, he opened an exhibition at the famous Drouand David art gallery, where artists of the stature of Picasso and Chagall had previously exhibited. In the 1960s, he returned to Spain, and over the following years, the artist lived and worked in various places: Seville, Córdoba, Chipiona, and Cercedilla (Madrid). For a time, he moved to the Netherlands, and in 2010, he returned to Castellón de la Plana, where he has maintained his residence and studio ever since. Juan García Ripollés has been awarded the Alzira Gold Medal and the Valencia Arts Prize. His works are found all over the world, appearing in galleries, private collections, museums, and urban spaces.
