Brunsviga A58 Adding Machine, ca. 1950

Brunsviga A58 Adding Machine with Printer, circa 1950. In Good Condition and Working Perfectly

This attractive machine, with its simple and functional design, is a Brunsviga Model A58 adding machine. It is a mid-20th-century piece: this model remained in production between 1936 and 1952. The adding machine works perfectly, just like it did on the first day, and the print on the paper roll is clear and sharp. These features make this machine not only an authentic and exclusive vintage decorative piece, but also a fully functional item.

The Brunsviga brand was, along with Odhner and Triumphator, one of the three most important brands in the mechanical calculator market during the first half of the 20th century. The brand was established when the German company Grimme, Natalis & Co. of Braunschweig acquired the patents for the Odhner calculator (in 1892) to manufacture them under the trade name Brunsviga, which is actually the Latin name for the city where the factory was located, Braunschweig. In 1927, the company was renamed Brunsviga Maschinenwerke AG, and in 1959 it merged with Olympia Werke AG. On the front of this adding machine, next to the paper roll, there is a triangular metal plate bearing the logo and the brand name.

The machine features a black enameled sheet metal body with a martelé finish. The keyboard has a green background, against which the cylindrical black and off-white keys stand out. There are also four red keys with different functions. Above the keyboard is the paper roll and the plastic strip that holds the sheet in place as it unrolls. On the right, a sleek lever allows you to obtain the sum. Beneath the lever is the adding machine's serial number: 6913, engraved and enameled in clear white numerals.

This vintage adding machine is a museum-quality piece that retains all of its practical and understated beauty, in addition to functioning perfectly.
