French Clock Garniture, Circa 1870. Signed and in Working Order

Exclusive French set consisting of a mantel clock and two matching candelabra, made around 1870. This is a beautiful example of gilded bronze craftsmanship, and its small size makes it a delicate piece. The clock runs perfectly, and the entire set is in excellent condition, making it a decorative piece of great historical significance. The clock is signed on both the dial and the movement, and the candelabra-each with three lights-complement its beauty, forming a stunning ensemble.

On the clock's movement, there is a circular stamp bearing the inscription "JAPY FRERES & CIE - GDE MED.D'HONNEUR." This stamp indicates that the movement was crafted by the renowned clockmaking firm Japy Frères, founded by Frédéric Japy in Beaucourt, France, in 1777. In 1855, the company received a medal at that year's Paris Exposition, and since then has stamped various marks on its movements to attest to this honor. The Japy firm still exists today, and in addition to watches, it has manufactured all kinds of items throughout its history, from engines to typewriters. On the movement of this clock, we can also see another circular stamp engraved into the metal, bearing the inscription D'AUREVILLE & LALLIER BREVETÉ S.G.D.G.

The clock's dial is made of white porcelain with black Roman numerals. It bears an elegant signature: Ancely Pére & Fils, and at the bottom, the clock's place of origin: TOLOUSE. The dial has some hairline cracks at the bottom, but otherwise the entire clock and the candelabra are in very good condition. The gilded bronze is carved into elegant and delicate floral-inspired filigree patterns-symmetrical and decorative-which are repeated in various forms on the candelabra and the clock. This is undoubtedly a beautiful set that showcases the quality of French bronze engraving and clockmaking, destined to shine in its own right in an elegant and aristocratic living room.
