Magnificent French Table Clock from 1900. Perfectly Preserved and in Working Order

Beautiful French table clock, made entirely of bronze in 1900. This is a unique piece of great beauty that has come down to us in excellent condition. The clock runs perfectly, just as it did on the first day, and its mechanism has been serviced. This is a very old piece, over a hundred years old, yet it remains as beautiful as ever. It features a bronze body and a white dial, with a rectangular case adorned with a profusion of reliefs, details, and scrollwork carved from the same metal. The overall design is elegant and stylized, resting on four delicate bronze legs; the front legs are carved in the shape of lion's claws.

Rising above the bronze case is an urn-shaped ornament, surrounded by fine strips of carved metal that connect it to the rest of the clock. The sides of the case also feature beautiful reliefs, at the center of which are prominent lion heads, each holding a ring in its mouth. The large dial is also adorned with a frame of scrolls and decorative reliefs that emphasize its understated beauty. It is white with elegant black numerals, and at its center is a delicate black filigree ornament. The hands are made of black metal and feature a simple design. The dial is in excellent condition, with no hairline cracks or visible damage.

On the back, the clock case has a round access door through which we can view the movement, which is in perfect condition and retains all of its original parts and gears. On the metal case, we can see the clock's serial number, 32912, as well as a circular stamp bearing the manufacturer's name: JAPY FRERES & CIE - MED. D. HONEUR. The clockmaking firm Japy Frères was founded in 1771 by Georges Frédéric Japy, better known as Frédéric Japy, who was an apprentice to Jean-Jacques Perrelet. The company not only manufactured clocks but also produced many other types of goods, such as kitchen utensils, chains, padlocks, toys, typewriters, etc. Generally, the company only manufactured the clock mechanisms or parts thereof, while the finished clock bore the mark of the final manufacturer.
