Antique Globe of Great Beauty and in Excellent Condition. Germany, 1920s

Beautiful colored globe with a dark varnished wooden base, in very good condition and nearly 100 years old. The globe was manufactured in the 1920s by the German company Columbus Verlag and has come down to us in magnificent condition. The globe shows the division of the worlds countries according to the political map of the era, with names in German and territories in different colors. The globe also features parallels and meridians, as well as geographical features and ocean currents.

At the bottom of the globe, the manufacturers stamp is printed, bearing the inscription COLUMBUS ERDGLOBUS (the model name) COLUMBUS VERLAG GMBH BERLIN LICHTERFELDE. There is also a black diamond-shaped emblem listing the names of the creators and cartographers who produced the maps. COLUMBUS Verlag Paul Oestergaard GmbH is a German manufacturer of maps and globes that began operations in 1909 after being founded in Berlin by the cartographic publisher Paul Oestergaard. Today, the company remains a global leader in the manufacture of globes and cartographic materials. The company is also known for having produced a globe with a diameter of 106 cm that belonged to Adolf Hitler, which at the time was the largest mass-produced globe in the world.

This beautiful globe has a paper surface that is well-preserved except for a few minor imperfections of virtually no significance. The maps are complete, and the printing is excellentclear and without any blurred areas. The stand is made of gently turned beech wood, stained mahogany, and finished with a beautiful gloss. A vertical spindle and a graduated brass arch hold the globe in place.
