A beautiful antique map of the Kingdom of Morocco and Fez, printed in the Netherlands circa 1641, in colour and in very good condition. The original engraving was created by Abraham Ortelius, a famous cartographer and engraver who was nicknamed the Ptolemy of the 16th century. The map in question is a 17th-century print based on Orteliuss original. The map depicts the region of Morocco, which in those days was a kingdom divided into two parts: Morocco and Fez. The mark in the centre of the map is not a tear or damage but the point where the two pages that make up the map are joined, so the integrity of the work remains intact. The seam is loose by about 3 cm, but this is at the seam itself, not on the map. The map has no tears or missing sections. The print is executed in black ink and various colours, giving it a truly unique beauty, emphasised by the lovely cartouche in the lower left corner, where two fauns sit on a pedestal bearing the engravers name. The reverse side of the pages features an explanation of the map in German.
