Stunning Dutch atlas containing a collection of maps compiled by Nicolas Visscher in 1670. This is a unique and highly valuable piece, worthy of a major museum or library.

Its author is Nicolas Visscher (1618-1679). The Visschers are recognized as important engravers and publishers of maps and atlases, ranking among the best in 17th-century Holland. The dynasty began with Claes Jansz Visscher (1587-1652), who created the copper plates used to engrave the maps. He was succeeded by his son Nicolas, who reproduced the maps in this atlas from the plates made by his father. After him, Nicolas III (1649-1702) continued the work of his predecessors, and upon his death, his widow Elizabeth continued to publish maps until her own death in 1726. The Visschers are considered the second-best Dutch map publishers of their time, second only to Willem Janszoon Blaeu. Their maps and atlases are of the highest quality, immense beauty, and great precision, and today they are considered true works of art.

This magnificent atlas contains a total of 23 engraved and hand-colored maps. Twenty of them are intact and in perfect condition, while the other three are in good condition but show some water stains. Originally, the atlas contained a total of 56 maps, but only the current 23 have survived. The rest were sold as individual maps before we discovered it.

Some maps are hand-colored, and we know they are authentic originals from that period. The maps are illuminated and decorated with beautiful engravings, in which we see mythological figures holding signs with the Latin name of the region they represent, as well as the scale and other relevant information. They also feature the Latin name of the engraver, Nicolaum Visscher.

A complete atlas by Nicolaum Visscher is valued between 50,000 and 80,000 euros. The combined individual value of the maps contained in this atlas ranges from 12,000 to 14,000 euros. The 7,000-euro asking price represents only a fraction of its true value. A great opportunity for any collector.

This magnificent atlas is a true marvel of 17th-century cartography. Its beauty, quality, and great value make it a museum-quality piece, worthy of belonging to a leading expert in antique books and maps.
