Spain. Commander of the Order of Malta. With case

The metal used for this Commander of the Order of Malta medal is silver-gilt. It measures 4.9 cm wide from side to side, and the total height or length, including the crown and ribbon, is 10 cm.

The medal dates from the reign of Alfonso XII or Alfonso XIII. In any case, it dates from around the year 1900. The medal is in superb condition. On other medals of the Order of Malta, the white enamel may have chipped near the tips, where it is most delicate, but on this specific example I currently hold in my hands, the enamel is perfect all the way to the very tips. The red enamel on the ribbon is equally pristine. The medal has a hinged crown and feels cool to the touch. The case is the original from that period and is slightly angled to better display the Order. The interior is lined with red fabric and features a gold-engraved Royal Coat of Arms with gold lettering; below it are six medals, and the name of the jeweler who crafted the medals is engraved in gold: Hijo de B. Castells, Escudellers, Barcelona. Overall, it is a fantastic medal, just over 100 years old, which has nevertheless managed to preserve its enamel in perfect condition and comes with its original case, which also closes perfectly. It is one of those special medals in a collection that one likes to admire and hold from time to time. I am a collector, and perfect medals are the most coveted. And there are fewer and fewer of them.

I don't need to remind you that I can put this in writing on a certificate of authenticity that I can send with the medal; I am one of the few antique dealers who certifies their pieces, and I give you my personal guarantee that if, within seven days of receiving the medal, you decide you don't want it-for whatever reason- I will refund 100% of what you paid for it.
