Order of the Crown of Yugoslavia, Officer Class. 1930s-1940s

This beautiful decoration is the Order of the Crown of Yugoslavia, Officer Class, which was awarded in the former country between 1930 and 1945. It is a very attractive medal in good condition, which still features its deep blue moiré ribbon in excellent condition.

This order was created following the establishment of Yugoslavia as a country at the end of World War I: the state was formed around Serbia and was initially named the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes. In 1921, Alexander I ascended to the throne; in 1929, he temporarily suspended the Constitution and declared a dictatorship to quell separatist movements. It was then that the country adopted the name Yugoslavia. In 1930, the Order of the Crown of Yugoslavia was established to commemorate the state's name change.

The design takes the form of a Greek cross, with arms composed of clusters of five white-enameled petals outlined in silver. At the center of the cross rests the Royal Crown of Yugoslavia, surrounded by a thin gold cord. On the reverse of the medal appears the date 3-X-1929 and the letter A, which corresponds to the king's monogram. The cross is attached to the moiré ribbon by a beautiful ring shaped like a laurel wreath.

This medal bears witness to the turbulent events experienced by the Balkan region during the 20th century. Its beauty and historical significance make it a true museum piece.
