Medal of the Order of Saint Hermenegild. Spain. Reign of Alfonso XIII
Spanish medal of the Order of Saint Hermenegild from the reign of Alfonso XIII, in very good condition and featuring a beautiful design. The medal was awarded as a prize for military perseverance, as indicated by the enamel adorning the centre of the cross. It is made of gilt metal with enamel: the cross has white arms, and the obverse features the central silhouette of a gilded knight against a light blue background. Beneath the horses legs, there is a tiny chip in the enamel, barely noticeable. The image is surrounded by an ultramarine ring bearing the inscription PREMIO A LA CONSTANCIA MILITAR in gold. The reverse, meanwhile, bears the inscription FVIII in raised letters. The silk ribbon is white and fuchsia with vertical stripes, featuring a gold clasp and a royal crown connecting it to the decoration.
