Stunning E. Leitz Wetzlar Microscope in Good Condition and in Working Order. Germany, 1904
Fantastic antique microscope manufactured in Germany in 1904 by the prestigious firm Leitz (E. Leitz Wetzlar). This is a collector's item due to its beauty and excellent condition. The microscope includes all its original parts and is in working condition. It comes in a beautiful solid mahogany case, crafted with exquisite dovetail joints. Inside the case, you'll also find two wooden holders for the lenses and eyepieces (in their corresponding brass sleeves) and a small box with a sliding lid for accessories. Engraved on the rear leg of the base is the manufacturer's name, E. Leitz Wetzlar, and the serial number: No. 77518, which indicates the year of manufacture.
Leitz is one of the most prestigious brands of optical equipment of the 20th century. The company was originally founded in Wetzlar (Germany) under the name Wetzlar Optical Institute by Karl Kellner. This took place in 1849. In 1865, Ernst Leitz joined the firm and, in just four years, took control of it, changing its name to the Ernst Leitz Optical Institute. In addition to its magnificent microscopes and lenses, the company became world-famous for its Leica cameras (short for Leitz Camera).
This beautiful scientific instrument features a design very characteristic of early 20th-century microscopes: a black-enameled cast-iron stand or base and an upper section composed of movable parts and gold-plated brass lenses, with chrome-plated screws. As mentioned, it comes with brass cases for the three lenses and extra eyepieces, accessories that are neatly arranged in their respective holders. The case in which the set is stored is very well preserved, with the wood in good condition and the original handle, lock, and key.
Without a doubt, this Leitz microscope will be the star of any top-tier collection of scientific antiques.
