Steindorff Microscope in Excellent Condition and in Working Order. Germany, 1920s

A magnificent early 20th-century microscope in very good condition and in good working order. This scientific instrument comes from Germany and was manufactured by Steindorff & Co., as evidenced by the inscription engraved on the microscope's column. The microscope features a classic and functional design, with a black-enameled cast-iron base and an upper section composed of various gilded brass parts, along with some silver-plated metal components. The base of the instrument has the classic "bird-claw foot" shape, and its enamel finish is in very good condition-smooth and shiny, with hardly any signs of wear.

Steindorff & Co. remained in business for over a hundred years, producing microscopes and scientific research instruments. Its origins date back to 1879, when Emil Steindorff founded the original company in Berlin. Later, Emil's brother, Otto Steindorff, and Julius Kaiser joined the firm; Kaiser would eventually become its owner. After weathering the vicissitudes of the world wars, the company pressed on, and in 1951 a subsidiary was established in the United States to distribute its products throughout the Americas. In the early 1980s, Steindorff & Co. became a corporation, only to cease operations permanently in 1986 when it went bankrupt.

This microscope is a fine example of the quality of the products manufactured by Steindorff. The instrument features a revolver with three lenses, all of which are original and in good condition, and the rest of its components are also in very good condition. One of the lenses is engraved with the name Carl Zeiss Jena, a famous manufacturer of optical equipment from that era, while the other two show the magnification they provide. On the front of the revolver head, along with the manufacturer's name and the city where it was located (Berlin), we also find the microscope's serial number engraved in the metal: 42677. The microscope does not come with a case.

Its beautiful and simple design, combined with its functionality, make this microscope an antique piece of great elegance and character.
