Magnificent Antique Holster Set for a Quartermaster General. Spain, Circa 1920

A striking pair of antique cavalry holsters for a quartermaster general, highly decorative and in good condition. This is an original period piece, manufactured in Spain and dating from the reign of Alfonso XIII (18861931). The holsters are made of leather, brass, and embroidered fabric, and stand out for their ornate design and the abundance of decorative details they feature. In all likelihood, this was a ceremonial accessory intended to be worn during parades by an officer of the era.

The holsters themselves consist of two reddish-brown genuine leather cases, carefully sewn and shaped to accommodate the pistols. Both are in magnificent condition, with no scratches, loose stitching, or damage. At the tip, they feature a beautiful gilded brass finial, with engravings and filigree forming a leaf motif. Covering the top of the holsters are two black lids, lavishly decorated with embroidery and metal appliqués. The covers are made of leather lined with felt and consist of two overlapping, sewn-together sections that cover the holsters almost entirely.

The two pieces that make up each cover feature exquisite gold-thread embroidery around their edges. In the center is a gilded brass detail topped with the royal crown. The inner lining of the covers is slightly worn, but this detail is not noticeable unless the pieces are lifted. Both pistol holsters are connected to each other by a leather strap with a series of ribbons and straps made of the same material, featuring metal buckles designed to secure the accessory to the horses hindquarters. This set of fastenings is in very good condition.

These cavalry holsters are an authentic, historic, and exceptionally beautiful piece. They will undoubtedly stand out in a fine collection of Spanish military antiques.
