Elegant French Inclinometer from World War I, in Gilded Brass and in its Original Case

Magnificent French inclinometer, which was most likely used during World War I. Inclinometers are devices used to calculate the angle of fire for cannons; they are mounted on the cannons to obtain a precise measurement. The device in question is made of polished, shiny gold-plated brass and is preserved in its original wooden case. The case, with a sliding lid, is slightly worn but can be easily restored. The metal is in very good condition, as is the circular angle measurement scale, made of silver-plated metal. Next to it, part of a white plate secured with two screws remains intact. The brand name is engraved on the base and scale of the inclinometer, within a triangular silhouette inset in a circle, forming an elegant logo. This is the French firm Chasselon Cassan, a brand dedicated to the manufacture of optical measuring instruments such as inclinometers and theodolites.

The inclinometer retains all its parts. The lenses are in perfect condition, and the instrument is in good working order, functioning just as it did on the first day. The length of its base is striking-it exceeds half a meter-which lends it stability and elegance. The screws turn smoothly, allowing the device to be operated without any problems. The metal shows slight wear in some areas due to the instrument's original use, which is to be expected in such an antique piece. The spirit level located on the base is in perfect condition, with the bubble and the glass still intact, featuring a painted red circle.

In short, this is a beautiful measuring instrument that was most likely used in a historic conflict, making it a first-rate military antique worthy of the finest collections.
