Vintage Republican Navy Officer Epaulets. Spain, 193339

Vintage and rare Republican Navy officer epaulets manufactured in Spain between 1933 and 1939. This is a very rare item, as they were used by the military for only a very brief period. The ones shown in the images are in good condition and come in their original period case. They are made of embroidered silk in a golden yellow colour, and each features two metal insignia in the shape of an anchor topped by a mural crown. Both retain their full fringes, which are in good condition. The underside that comes into contact with the garment is lined with black velvet and bears the coat of arms and the name MEDINA, EMBROIDERER TO THE ROYAL HOUSEHOLD printed in gold. This name also appears in relief on the gold gilt-metal clips used to attach the epaulets to the uniforms shoulder pads. The case, meanwhile, is made of solid light mahogany; its front panel folds down, allowing the epaulets to be displayed as a showcase piece.

Rare, authentic, and steeped in history, these antique epaulets from a Spanish Republican Navy officer deserve a place in the collection of a military history museum.
