Antique French Firefighter's Helmet from the City of Fontenay-sur-Conie, France, 1890

Magnificent antique firefighter's helmet made of polished brass, from Fontenay-sur-Conie (France) and manufactured in the late 19th century (1890). The helmet is an authentic piece that was once worn by a member of the fire department in that French town. It is in very good condition: the brass is polished, shiny, and smooth, with only very slight nicks and signs of wear that speak to its past. On the front, it features a beautiful brass appliqué in the shape of a shield set against laurel branches. The shield depicts a burning log; above it are four towers forming a wall. There is also a band bearing the inscription SAPEURS POMPIERS FONTENAY SUR CONIE (Fontenay-sur-Conie Fire Department). The helmet also retains the leather strap with a metal buckle designed to fasten it under the chin, as well as the inner lining that allows it to be worn comfortably.

Beautiful and authentic, this antique French firefighters helmet from the late 19th century will stand out in any collection or display case.
