Antique French Firefighters Helmet from the City of Petite Raon. France, 1890

A beautiful, very old French firefighters helmet, wonderfully preserved and with great decorative potential. The helmet belongs to the fire department of the French city of Petite Raon and is dated circa 1890. It is in practically impeccable condition: made of polished brass, it shows no damage, dents, or signs of rust that might detract from its appearance. On the front, above the visor, the helmet is adorned with a brass appliqué depicting a shield set against leafy branches. On the shield, we can see a spherical bottle with flames emerging from its mouth (a fire pump); above it is a wall with four towers. Above this design is a band bearing the inscription SAPEURS POMPIERS PETITE RAON (Petite Raon Fire Department). Above the band, we see the image of the fire pump with flames again, this time engraved in relief directly on the helmet itself. The item retains its leather adjustment strap with a metal buckle, as well as the inner lining designed to ensure a comfortable fit on the head.
