Antique French Firefighters Helmet from the City of Saint Martin le Vinoux. France, 1890

A beautiful antique firefighters helmet belonging to the fire department of Saint Martin le Vinoux (France). The helmet is dated 1890; despite its great age, it is preserved in magnificent condition and stands out for its intense shine and exquisite design. The metal surface is smooth and shiny, with no dents, dings, or rust. On the front, the helmet is adorned with a cut-out and engraved brass appliqué depicting a shield with a bonfire inside. Above this, we can see a wall with four towers, and above both, a band bearing the inscription SAPEURS POMPIERS ST MARTIN LE VINOUX (St. Martin le Vinoux Fire Department). At the top, the crest crowning the helmet is decorated with a relief motif depicting a flaming bottle (a fire extinguisher). The original leather strap designed to secure the helmet under the firefighters chin is well-preserved, as is the inner lining necessary for a comfortable fit.

Its beautiful appearance and superb condition are excellent reasons to include this antique French firefighters helmet, made of polished brass, in any collection of special antiques.
