Antique French Firefighters Helmet. France, circa 1880

Spectacular antique French brass firefighters helmet, manufactured in the late 19th century (circa 1880) and in very good condition. The helmet is complete except for the left side panelthe symmetrical counterpart to the one preserved on the rightwhich is decorated with a scale motif. The rest of the piece is in magnificent condition and displays beautiful decoration. At the top is an eye-catching brass plume attached to the helmet with brass rivets, which adds height and a sense of nobility. The front of the visor features a central shield bearing the image of a round bottle with flames emerging from its mouth. The shield is surrounded by oak leaves and straight leaves, among which two axes can be distinguished. On the left, the inscription SAPEURS POMPIERS (sapper firefighters) stands out. The interior of the helmet retains part of the leather lining, worn from use and the passage of time but entirely original.

This antique French firefighters helmet is an extremely decorative piece, with the added appeal of being an original period item that was once used by a professional firefighter.
