Antique British BowBilt colonial helmet manufactured for Payne Bros. Ltd. circa 1930. The helmet comes from England and is in excellent conditionvery well-preserved and complete. The inner structure appears to be made of cork, a lightweight, flexible, and insulating material. These helmets were typically used on expeditions to hot and humid regions (such as certain countries in Africa or Asia), making cork the ideal material for their construction. The exterior is covered in white fabric, while the inner lining is a light brown shade. Both are in good condition, with only slight signs of dirt in isolated areas. The metal peak crowning the top of the hat stands out, similar to that of the famous German pickelhaube helmets. Inside, the leather lining that allows the helmet to be adjusted to fit the head is preserved; it is in good condition and complete. We can also see the fabric label with details about the manufacturer and distributor, where the following inscription is clearly legible: JOYWEAR BOWBILT HEALTH HELMET MADE IN ENGLAND MADE EXPRESSLY FOR PAYNE BROS. LTD. DURBAN. The label indicates the serial number: HAT No. 207475.
