Elegant and functional antique handheld graphoscope, in museum-quality condition, like new, but manufactured in 1883 in the United States and in perfect condition and working order. This beautiful device, known as The Stereo-Graphoscope, is used to view stereoscopic images with the intriguing depth effect created by this technique and can also be used as a magnifying glass. This device should not be confused with a classic stereoscope, even though their external appearance is similar. Its design is fantastic, modern, and simple, making it an item that is as beautiful as it is functional. It comes with a set of 22 stereoscopic photographs mounted on cardboard, depicting nudes from the early 20th century. These are reproductionsreprintsof period images, full of charm and sensuality.

The device is crafted from mahogany and cherry wood, with gilded brass accents, and retains its original lenses. Unlike standard stereoscopic viewers, this graphoscope can be used as a stereoscope but also as a magnifying glass. To do so, the user simply needs to rotate the lenses. The devices operation is clearly described in the accompanying sheet, with the instructions for use printed in English. The leaflet is also original and is very well preserved.

The light-colored wooden stand on which the device is mounted serves a dual purpose. On the one hand, it allows the user to hold the graphoscope in their hand to use it as a magnifying glass or to view the images; on the other hand, it also serves as a base to rest the device on a table. On one of its wooden parts, we can see the name of the device, THE STEREO-GRAPHOSCOPE, with all the international patents engraved on its surface. The brass fitting that secures the movable handle to the stand is also engraved with a date: JULY 24 1883, and the word PATENTED.
