Spectacular collection of 148 45x107 stereo photographs from World War I, taken in France circa 1914 and in excellent condition. This compilation of selected images, printed on glass plates, is of immense historical and aesthetic interest due to the quality of the photographs. The plates are in very good condition and depict images from the front lines of the conflict, featuring striking scenes of soldiers daily lives, the trenches, and completely devastated landscapes. The plates feature chilling images of corpses, weaponry (machine guns and cannons), and war machines such as tanks, airplanes, armoured vehicles, and bunkers.

Most of the images depict the activities of French soldiers, but there are also a few showing German soldiers, though these are fewer in number. Many of them are truly chilling: from close-up photographs of rows of dozens of corpses to soldiers in the trenches posing with their weapons. In some of the images, the soldiers remain indifferent to the cameras lens, while in others they pose looking directly at the camera. Together, they form a collection of immense interest, essential for understanding the course of a war that ravaged Europe in the early 20th century.

The plates are presented in their original period cardboard boxes, which are stored inside a single case. To view them and appreciate their exceptional quality, the collection includes an antique UNIS France stereoscopic viewer. It is a simple yet practical device, ideal for viewing the images with the three-dimensional effect achieved through stereoscopy. The viewer is made of mahogany and bears the manufacturers stamp on its front. It is very well preserved: the only visible damage is a small chip on the smoked glass rear panel, which in no way affects the viewing of the images.
