Beautiful Nielloed Silver Pocket Watch. Germany, 1902. In Very Good Condition and Working

Attractive pocket watch that is over a hundred years old. Crafted from solid silver, it is of German origin and dates from 1902. The front cover of the silver case features a crocodile-skin-style decoration created using the niello technique. This ancient technique involves inlaying enamel into a metal surface (in this case, silver). First, the indentations or incisions are made, and then black enamel is applied to them. Generally, this enamel is made from silver and lead fused with sulfur.

It is believed that this beautiful technique originated in Ancient Egypt, although it later spread throughout the rest of the known world and was particularly prized in Europe during the Middle Ages. On this watch, the niello is black, and the motif resembles reptile scales or ceramic mosaics. It is a very Art Deco design, truly ahead of its time, making this watch a very special piece. In the center of the front cover, a plain shield awaits engraving with the watch owner's initials.

The case is crafted from solid silver, as evidenced by the hallmarks found on the inside of the covers. Beneath them, we can also see the serial number engraved on the metal: 86753. The front cover conceals a beautiful white dial with clear black Arabic numerals, a seconds hand, and stylized gold-plated hands. If we lift the back cover-engraved with the manufacturer's awards and details about the movement-we gain access to the movement itself and can make out the delicate gears and rubies that keep it running perfectly.

This watch is a highly decorative and original piece, whose timeless elegance makes it a stylish accessory, perfect for any occasion.
