Gold-Plated Pocket Watch. Mid-20th Century. Very Well Preserved

This elegant gold-plated pocket watch stands out for its excellent condition and smooth operation. Its movement has been fully serviced, and both the case and the covers are in very good condition. This model was manufactured in the 1940s-1950s and has survived to the present day in optimal condition. The watch features subtle and discreet decoration on both the front and back: lines that radiate from the bottom and fan out, evoking the rays of the sun at sunrise or sunset.

Inside, we see the case serial number, 5850176, accompanied by an inscription indicating that the watch is an Elgin and beneath an engraving depicting a standing rower. The Elgin Watch Company was founded in 1864 in Elgin, Illinois (United States) under the name National Watch Company. The name of the city where it was located was added in 1884, and it eventually became the name by which these watches came to be known. The company was one of the largest watch manufacturers in North America and continued production until the mid-1960s.

The bottom of the watch's outer case features a smooth oval where the owner's initials can be engraved. Inside the dust cover, the same number is repeated, along with a note indicating that the case comes with a 10-year warranty. Lifting this cover reveals the complex and delicate Swiss-made mechanism, which is highly precise and functions flawlessly. On the bezel surrounding the mechanism-which is part of the case-the watch's serial number is again engraved into the metal.
