Very Early German Sabre. Passau, Germany, circa 1650

Very old and primitive German sabre, manufactured in Passau, Germany, circa 1650. This is one of the earliest sabres ever forged in the world, a type of weapon that began to be produced in the 17th century, particularly in Germany. Very few examples survive today, making this weapon an exclusive, rare, and special piece. The sabre in question is made of steel and has a slightly curved blade. It is a model for an infantry officer with a Valona-style guard, featuring its characteristic perforations. The hilt is intricate and beautiful, with curved quillons to protect the hand, a tapered grip, and a ball-shaped pommel. On the blade, we can see a mark engraved into the metal, depicting a stylised image of a wolf. This mark was used for a time in Passau, though it was also employed by armourers in Solingen and some other German cities.

This very early German sabre from Passau is a magnificent piece that any collector of historical weapons would love to own.
