Important Antique Train Station Clock. Quarter-Hour Chime. Germany, 19th Century

Magnificent large antique wall clock (130 cm tall), crafted from hand-carved solid wood and in perfect working condition. The clock strikes the hours, half-hours, and quarters, and was made in Germany in the 19th century. The mechanism features two gongs: one for striking the hours and the other for the quarters and half-hours. It works beautifully, having been carefully serviced and adjusted to ensure optimal performance. The solid walnut case has also been restored and today displays its great beauty in all its splendor.

The top of the clock features a metal plaque with an inscription engraved in large black letters: UNAM TIME. The meaning of this inscription is Watch the Hour or Fear the Hour. This plaque and the engraved symbol on it (a winged railroad wheel) suggest that the clock may have been part of the equipment at an old train station, as the winged railroad wheel was the logo of the Prussian Railways.

Furthermore, inside the clocks mechanism, we find a stamp engraved with the name GUSTAV BECKER, a prestigious German clockmaker who worked in Freiburg during the 19th century. In addition to the GB stamp, the movement also bears an engraving of the patent number (D.R.P. No. 177600) and the serial number: 1970183. The clocks gilded brass pendulum is truly beautiful: it is engraved with the profile of a woman with long hair, in a Modernist style. The clock case itself is certainly stunning: the solid walnut wood has been lavishly turned and hand-carved to create a piece of immense decorative beauty. The delicate lacquer finish that protects the wood enhances its appeal and gives it an intense satin sheen.
