This is a beautiful and delicate Chinese porcelain bowl shaped like a lotus flower, hand-painted with subtle colored motifs. In addition to the intrinsic beauty of the decoration, this piece stands out for its excellent condition: the bowl shows no cracks, hairlines, or chips. The porcelain is white and of high quality, and the decorative motifs are rendered in various colors. The cobalt blue typical of Chinese porcelain is visible both on the exterior of the bowl-in a plant-inspired decoration on its base-and in the central part of the interior. Furthermore, this central motif is surrounded by beautiful designs depicting butterflies, rendered in a wide range of colors.

These butterflies are skillfully executed in a very free-flowing style, varying in size and shape. They are distributed across the white background with a sense of freedom and balance, and together they convey a sense of movement and harmony. The lobed rim of the bowl is also embellished with a gold border.

The base of the bowl bears the mark of Wan Li (1573-1619), which is inscribed in blue beneath the piece's glaze. The mark is surrounded by a circle of the same shade and consists of six hand-painted ideograms that are protected by the glaze applied after the bowl was decorated. The bowl was likely manufactured after the mark was applied. We date it to around 1900.
