Pair of Chinese Vases with Mirrored Decoration. Perfectly Preserved. Guangxu Mark

Magnificent pair of hand-decorated white Chinese porcelain vases. This is a set of great beauty, crafted from the finest porcelain and featuring colorful decoration that makes them stand out among similar pieces. These two Chinese vases have survived to the present day in excellent condition, with no visible damage and their colors as vivid and brilliant as when they were first made. The mirror-image (symmetrical) decoration reveals that they were designed as a set, and as such should be displayed together to be seen in all their splendor.

The hand-painted motifs adorning the vases are concentrated primarily on their front faces. On both pieces, we see a scene depicting five figures with smiling faces. The central figure is undoubtedly the elderly man or dignitary located in the upper right corner, dressed in luxurious traditional garments and holding a large parasol made of peacock feathers. This elderly man is accompanied by four figures-a woman and two men-who watch with delight the movements of another figure, perhaps a child. Particularly striking is the richness of the group's clothing, which is full of color and crafted with the utmost attention to detail.

The characters' facial features are also very appealing, displaying great expressiveness with the utmost economy of line. The skill of the artist who depicted this group of figures is evident in the movement, liveliness, and charm that the scene exudes. The same group, with all its details, is repeated on both vases but in a symmetrical arrangement, as if each piece were mirroring what appears on the other. On the back of both vases, we can see two red bats flying alone against the white background as a symbol of good fortune. Finally, the base of both pieces bears the mark of Guangxu (1873-1908), the penultimate Chinese emperor.

This exceptional pair of symmetrical vases is sure to take pride of place in the home of any lover of beautiful Oriental porcelain.
