This elegant blue-and-white Chinese porcelain vase is a classic piece of Oriental craftsmanship, both for its proportions and its delicate cobalt-blue decoration. It is a vase with rounded, understated shapes that draws the eye with the delicacy of the hand-painted motifs on its white surface. Virtually the entire piece is covered with hand-painted motifs. The vase is in very good condition and shows no damage or chips, appearing just as beautiful as when it was first made.

As mentioned, the decoration covers the entire exterior surface of the vase and is executed with the utmost care. On the rounded section, an impressive imperial dragon with five toes on each claw-a symbol of good fortune-is depicted. The dragon has a long, sinuous serpentine body that winds its way around nearly the entire piece. Its face has a fierce expression, with angry eyes and an open maw. The body is rendered in great detail, displaying incredible perfection in each and every part. The mythological creature is surrounded by large flowers in an abstract and geometric style, as well as scrollwork covering the surface around it.

On the belly of the vase, at the base of the neck, we see a border featuring bats-animals that also symbolize good luck in Chinese art. Additionally, the neck of this piece is decorated with the figure of a bird with outstretched wings, surrounded by scrollwork and flowers similar to those adorning the background where the dragon is depicted. Decorative borders featuring abstract triangular motifs further embellish the piece, appearing at the base, the center, and the rim of the vase. If we turn it over, we find the Kangxi mark (1672-1722) in blue at the base, protected by the porcelain's glaze. Kangxi was one of China's most important emperors, the third of the Qing Dynasty and the second to reign over the entire empire.
