Stunning Chinese Porcelain Bowl on a Gilded Bronze Frame. 19th Century, Daoguang Period

This magnificent piece is a Chinese porcelain bowl mounted on a gold-plated bronze frame (ormolu). The bowl dates from the 19th century and was made during the Daoguang period, corresponding to the reign of the emperor of that name over China (1820-1850). It is a piece of fine Famille Rose porcelain, in perfect condition and 100% original from the period. The porcelain is nearly flawless, with no hairlines, chips, or other damage. If anything, the interior of the bowl shows slight wear on the glaze resulting from many years of use. This detail is part of the bowl's history and is a sign of its age.

As mentioned, the bowl was handcrafted during Emperor Daoguang's reign over China. This ruler was the eighth emperor of the Qing Dynasty and the sixth of that dynasty to rule the empire. The porcelain piece belongs to the "pink family": its exterior is strikingly eye-catching due to the profusion of vivid and delicate hues used in the decoration. The bowl is hand-painted: the bowl itself rises from a pale pink base adorned with a geometric border. Its exterior features a beautiful blue background against which figures of phoenixes with multicolored plumage stand out. The phoenix, which appears on both sides of the piece, is surrounded by numerous lotus flowers in shades of pink, yellow, white, blue, and green.

If we turn the bowl over, we find Daoguang's seal on the base, rendered in red on the white porcelain. The rest of the base is glazed in the same blue color that dominates the piece. The bowl is exceptionally beautiful, but its appeal is enhanced by the stand that supports and accentuates it: a gilded bronze structure (ormolú finish) composed of hand-carved latticework, featuring a typically Eastern aesthetic and adorned with delicate floral motifs. The stand is in excellent condition, and its rich golden hue contrasts effectively with the delicate colors of the fine porcelain piece.
