Hand-Painted Chinese Porcelain Wig Stand. 19th Century, with Qing Dynasty Seal

A fine stand for wigs and hats made of white porcelain hand-decorated with colorful motifs. This delicate piece dates from the 19th century, specifically from the reign of Emperor Tongzhi. This ruler governed the Chinese Empire from 1861 until 1875, when he died, having been the ninth emperor of the Qing Dynasty. The piece in question was made during that period and, despite its great age, has been preserved in good condition. Crafted from white porcelain, it features a hexagonal shape, and its exterior surface is lavishly hand-decorated with charming designs in various colors.

The designs adorning the stand depict various figures dressed in traditional attire. Among them are distinguished dignitaries with their servants, peasants, musicians, dancers, and elegant ladies. Surrounding them are natural scenes such as rocks of various shapes, trees, flowers, plants, and animals. An architectural structure is also depicted, beneath which a woman appears to be writing or reading. The figures appear cheerful and relaxed, and all the scenes exude a charming air of tranquility. The artist who created the decoration was undoubtedly a master, as the designs are executed with ease, precision, a keen sense of color, and skillful brushwork.

The piece bears the characteristic kiln mark on the rim and also on the base. It has a reconstruction at the top; otherwise, it is in very good condition, and its delicate colors and elegant lines are as beautiful as they were over a hundred years ago, when the piece was fired. If we turn it over, we'll find the seal of the period in which it was made stamped in red on the base. There is also a piece of brown sealing wax with remnants of fabric attached.
