Rare 19th-Century Chassaignac Surgical Testicle Castrator - 20 cm
A curious 19th-century mechanical tool used to perform castration operations and other surgical procedures. It is a rare antique tool, used in conjunction with other instruments such as scalpels, surgical knives, emasculators, or forceps, to perform castration procedures or remove tumors in the testicular region of men or animals.
This instrument has a very simple and effective design. It consists of an elongated, hollow piece open at both ends. Inside rests a caterpillar chain, which forms a loop at one end. At the other end, it is connected to a toothed piece that moves when two T-shaped cranks are operated. Its use is simple: simply turn the cranks to cause the toothed piece to pull in the chain. As it is pulled in, the chain closes the loop that emerges from the lower end of the tool.
The loop was intended to compress the scrotum of the patient or the animal undergoing surgery. Thanks to this compression, the operation was simpler and more straightforward. During procedures, one or two of these devices were typically used to facilitate incisions and other procedures. The tool is in very good condition and can be handled without any problems. The parts function well, and the metal is smooth and shiny.
This unique tool is a very special piece that will delight collectors of rare antiques.
