Complete Somso Anatomical Torso with All Parts. Germany, 1970s

This detailed anatomical torso, complete and in excellent condition, is a high-quality piece manufactured by one of the most renowned companies in the field of models for the study of anatomy, zoology, and botany: the German firm Somso. It dates from the 1970s and is made of sturdy, durable plastic. The torso depicts a man with a removable front section, inside which the various organs can be viewed and removed. All organs are numbered and labeled so they can be studied separately.

On the base of the torso is the company name, SOMSO, and the logo the firm has used for decades. The brand was founded in 1876, when Marcus Sommer Sr. opened the first factory in Thuringia, Germany. There, Sommer began producing technical models made of papier-mâché. In 1895, Fritz Sommer inherited the business from his father, and in 1929, the company expanded with the addition of model maker Max Doehler. Over the course of 52 years, the brand's collection of anatomical, zoological, and botanical models grew to encompass a spectacular range. In 1999, the Deutsches Museum in Munich dedicated a major exhibition to Somso, and in 2001, the Somso Museum opened its doors in the building that housed the first factory its founder established in the town of Sonneberg, Thuringia.

This attractive and comprehensive torso is a fine example of the quality of Somso products. It is crafted with great attention to detail, with all parts proportionate in size and accurately reproduced in terms of texture and color. The pieces fit together perfectly, and the torso is in excellent condition, making it not only a decorative or collector's item but also suitable for use today in the study of male human anatomy. Its quality and excellent condition make it a unique piece, worthy of a museum or a university.

Perfect for decorating a doctor's office or a professor's study, this anatomical torso is a real find for collectors.
