Antique Dentist’s Drill in Excellent Condition. Europe, 1910–20

Antique Dental Drill in Excellent Condition. Europe, 191020

Magnificent antique dental drill, crafted from black-lacquered iron with gold accents. This is an original tool from the early 20th century, manufactured between 1910 and 1920. The item is very well preserved and retains all its original parts and components. It works perfectly and retains all the charm of early-20th-century mechanical antiques.

The device consists of a tripod-shaped base supporting a wheel with a belt; the wheel is set in motion by pressing a pedal that causes it to turn. The rotation is transmitted to the spinning top itself via the ribbon connecting the two parts.

A long chrome-plated tube is fitted onto a vertical mast positioned next to the wheel; it is connected to the mast by a small wrench. At the top of the tube is a metal piece that holds a flexible tube. At the end of this tube is the spinning top itself, consisting of several interconnected parts. On the part located at the top of the chrome-plated tube, we can see two capital letters engraved: W&H. The entire chrome-plated metal assembly is superbly preserved, with hardly any signs of wear.

At the base of the lathe, we can see the pedal used to power the tool. This part, also made of wrought iron, features an attractive filigree design with circular areas to support the heel and instep. At the base of the instep, we can see a logo consisting of a rhombus inscribed within a rectangle, containing the initials AB. The rest of the mechanism features a beautiful black enamel finish, decorated with fine gold lines that highlight the contours of all the parts and shapes.

Thoroughly industrial and undeniably charming, this beautiful dental drill will be the perfect addition to a dentists office or to the collection of an enthusiast of antique machinery.
