A Curious Pair of Ear Trumpets for the Deaf. Germany, 1950s
This unique piece consists of a pair of ear-shaped ear trumpets, manufactured in Germany in the 1950s. It is a rare and ingenious item with an eye-catching design. The symmetrical ear trumpets are mounted at the ends of a flexible metal arch, designed to fit around the users head for comfortable wear. The device is in very good condition and fully functional, making it a fascinating collectors item for lovers of unique objects.
The earpieces are made of a reddish-brown, translucent plastic (Bakelite) that mimics the finish of tortoiseshell. Each earpiece features a triangular element with a grille on the front. This element actually serves as a sound amplifier: inside it lies the mechanism that boosts the volume. The components and parts are visible through the translucent plastic. The earpiece itself extends from the bottom of the amplifiera narrow, curved piece designed to be inserted into the users ear.
On one of the amplifiers, we can see a small circular mark, embossed on the plastic casing. The mark bears the following inscription: DGM Angem Ges Gesch. The other unit also has an inscription in German that reads: Rochhausen Waldkirchen /Erzgeb. These inscriptions indicate that the hearing aids were manufactured by the company Rochhausen Hörgeräte-Akustik Inh, located in Waldkirchen, Germany. This company, founded by Martin Rochhausen, has been in business for sixty years, manufacturing hearing aids.
These tortoiseshell-imitation ear trumpets are a very special item, magnificently preserved: a real find for collectors of rare pieces.
