Antique Medical Irrigation Pump Set. Original Mahogany Case. England, Circa 1900
This attractive antique piece is a set of medical instruments for professional use, manufactured in England circa 1900. The set contains an irrigation pump, two flexible tubing sets, and various nozzles for different uses. All instruments and accessories are presented in their original solid wood case, which is highly decorative and in excellent condition. The set is undeniably charming, and its early-20th-century aesthetic makes it a very special item. It is complete, with all its original components neatly arranged in their respective compartments.
The instruments contained in the case were intended for performing stomach lavages, enemas, and vaginal douches. For these procedures, the main and largest component was used: the cylindrical pump made of gilded brass. The two hoses and the three nozzles can be interchanged for their various independent uses. The metal parts are all made of gilded brass: the metals surface is shiny and polished, with no traces of rust or deterioration. The pump handle and nozzles are made of bone, and their attractive off-white hue complements the metal beautifully.
The pump works perfectly, and the hoses and nozzles fit together very well. This allows the instrument to be assembled to see what it looked like when it was in use. The case that holds the pump and its accessories is made of solid mahogany and is very well preserved. The lid features an oval brass plaque set into it, intended for engraving the owners name. The wood is protected by a beautiful, warm, and glossy lacquer finish. The interior of the case is lined with luxurious dark violet velvet in magnificent condition. The gilded brass of the instruments shines brightly against the dark background of this rich fabric.
Complete and in excellent condition, this set of medical instruments will be a standout in a display case dedicated to medical antiques.
