Complete Trepanation Instrument Set. Germany, 19001910
This intriguing item is a set of tools used for trepanation. It is a surgical instrument manufactured in Germany in the early 20th century (19001910) and is in excellent condition. The case contains six basic instruments for the aforementioned procedures, made of steel and in good condition. The metal is smooth and shiny, with hardly any signs of rust or deterioration. The instruments are fully functional, despite being over a hundred years old.
The kit is stored in a beautiful case lined with black imitation leather, which is also in very good condition. Both on the case lid and engraved on the instruments, we can see the word HAUPTNER. This name refers to H. Hauptner, a manufacturer of medical and surgical equipment founded in Berlin in 1857. Founded by Hans Hauptner, the company grew over the years, and in 1916 a factory was built in Solingen to meet market demand for these instruments. Today, the H. Hauptner brand still exists and continues to market its products after 150 years in business.
Among the instruments shown in the photographs, the trephine stands out: it is the hammer-shaped tool used to drill into bones. It is accompanied by two crown drill bits, one of which is attached to the trephine itself and the other placed next to it. The set is rounded out by several instruments designed to fracture the bone and deepen the holes. The case is lined with satin and velvet on the inside, both in a beautiful dark violet color and in magnificent condition.
This case containing trepanation instruments is a perfect piece to decorate a professionals office or to complete a collection of rare antiques.
