English Eyeglass Case for Optical Use. England, First Third of the 20th Century. Complete and in Good Condition

This attractive item is a set of eyeglasses for optical use, originating from England and manufactured in the first third of the 20th century. It is a piece of great beauty and interest, which is also complete. Not a single piece is missing from the lens set; all are original and in perfect condition. In fact, they can be used to measure prescription strength just as they were on the first day. The lenses are presented in their original mahogany case, which is also in excellent condition both inside and out.

The lenses are arranged in perfectly organized rows. Inside, we can see a series of white plates with sharp, clear black letters and numbers indicating the type of lens in each compartment and the magnification they provide. On the front of the case, there are two plates inscribed with "SPHERICAL" and "CYLINDRICAL," while on the back there are four more, with the words "CONCAVE" and "CONVEX" repeated and alternating. The lenses are organized into four slotted compartments; between each pair of compartments, the magnification of the lens pairs is indicated, also printed on vertical white plates.

The lenses have silver-plated metal rims, with tabs on which the magnification is engraved. The case, for its part, is in excellent condition: the wood displays the beautiful reddish-gold color of light mahogany, and on the top of the lid we can see the attractive flame-like grain of the wood. The interior of the lid is lined with moiré silk in a beautiful shade of blue, in magnificent condition. The clasp and hinges are also original, and overall, both the case and the set of loupes are in excellent condition.

This early 20th-century eyeglass set is the perfect piece to adorn an optician's office, displayed in a showcase dedicated to antiques related to the profession.
