Attractive aneroid barograph for naval use, manufactured by Richard Frères circa 1920. This is a beautiful antique item, which is also in perfect condition and works just as well as it did on the first day. The mahogany wood used for the supporting and protective frame has been carefully restored, showcasing its full splendor with the attractive reddish hue that characterizes it. The barograph also retains the original glass panels that cover the sides, as well as all the moving parts and gears that make it function. The key used to wind the mechanism is also included with the device.

Barographs are instruments used to measure atmospheric pressure and thereby predict possible changes in the weather. For this reason, they were-and still are-very common instruments in naval applications. In this case, it is an aneroid barograph, whose mechanism records pressure based on the expansion and contraction of the sealed drum visible inside the case. A metal pointer, connected to the discs of the drum and equipped with an ink reservoir at its tip, records these movements on a roll of graph paper. The clockwork mechanism inside the barograph is responsible for rotating the roll.

The barograph rests on a wooden board, into which the brass base is embedded. In the center of this plate, we can see the Richard Frères (RF) logo accompanied by the inscription "BREVETES SGDG - PARIS" and the serial number 109908. This detail indicates that the instrument was manufactured by Richard Frères, a firm founded in 1882 by Jules and Max Richard.
