Chadburn Brothers was a prestigious company dedicated to the manufacture of optical, mathematical, and physical instruments, founded in the first half of the 19th century. The company was based in Liverpool but had a branch at 10 Nursery Street, Sheffield. The barometers and telescopes manufactured by Chadburn Bros. were known for their quality and reliability and can be found in the collections of various history and technology museums.

This particular barometer stands out for the beauty of its case. It is crafted from a thick slab of solid oak, set vertically on a molded base. The case is shaped like a house, with the top end resembling a gabled roof. The hand-carved details are inspired by Neo-Gothic and botanical motifs. The wood retains its beautiful golden hue and satin finish. The circular dial rests in the center, surrounded by a gilded brass ring. It is white with black symbols and features two straight hands-a longer black one and a small gold one.
