This rare item is an accessory designed to be attached to a watchmakers lathe, used to hone the tips of the axles that make up the mechanism of watches. The item comes in its original period case and is very well preserved, with all its original parts and components. It works perfectly, and its delicate parts and gears move smoothly, despite being over a hundred years old. The accessory rests on a solid brass base, atop which sits a curved metal plate housing the various honing ports. A crank with a wooden handle is used to operate the mechanism. The case in which the piece is stored is lined with black faux leather on the outside and red velvet on the inside.
