Fantastic precision scale manufactured by Jos Nemetz in Vienna around 1900. It is in good condition, as can be seen in the photographs. The scale, made of silver-plated metal and brass, is perfectly protected by a custom-made wooden case with four sides of clear glass. It features a vertical guillotine-style door on the front of the unit, allowing quick access to the interior to place the weights. The balance consists primarily of two flat pans located at the bottom of the central bar, which features a metal tube with one end closed to facilitate measuring by grain. At the bottom of the central bar is the measuring scale, used to determine the weight of the product. Through an elaborate system of weights, the desired amount of grain can be weighed with the greatest possible accuracy. On the sides, hidden behind a small longitudinal hatch, are two weights marked with the letters R and L (right and left) that serve to lift and stabilize the scale. This is a completely original piece, as attested by the signature engraved in the center of the scale. It is complete with all its parts and has all the original springs in good condition, making it a magnificent piece.

It is important to note that, since the dawn of humanity, people have always sought ways to measure and weigh goods in order to ensure fair barter when it comes to the distribution of provisions. When we talk about weight, the first thing that comes to mind is a scale. Early items were weighed using a "Roman scale" or a balance scale with equal arms, like this example. These types of scales are the simplest, based on a system of balance between the arms. There is a wide variety of antique scales, although in many cases, due to their constant use, they do not reach us in complete condition. This type of scale is based on a system of two equal arms with a balancing axis between them, on which pans are placed-one for the desired goods (in this case, feed in the tube) and the other for weights used to calculate its value. Obviously, as time goes on and accuracy in weighing becomes increasingly necessary, more precise scales are developed in all kinds of formats tailored to specific needs-as in this case for measuring grain, where the inclusion of a closed tube on one side undoubtedly facilitates the measurement of this product's weight.
